Contribution to Your Learning and the Learning Community

Based upon my self-assessment, the criteria presented, and looking back on my coursework completed rather than ahead at what I could do I would give myself an 79.

I have very effectively managed my time this session. Being a wife, mother of 3 teenagers, full time teacher, campus leader, and graduate student requires time management and I am pleased with how I have done. I am also pleased with my initiative in reaching out to peers. These two courses have been the first I have taken at Lamar to encourage and require it so I wasn’t really sure how that would go. The first night we had online sessions for both courses, I just put myself out there on the discussion thread to see who else was educational technology leadership. I’m not sure why I thought finding people as confused as me would be useful, but I guess I knew that at least we would all be moving in the same direction. Numerous classmates responded and a Groupme was created and now I refer to them any time I have a question. Being able to see their work and share suggestions and praises has been so valuable. I don’t know if I’m supposed to mention them by name, but Cathy England, Katie Taylor, Larissa Patton, Stephen Hausman, and Veronica Cabello have really been the core for me. I participated in all activities, on time, with breadth and depth, and added additional postings to contribute to the learning. One of my favorite things to do in the beginning was just to ask how everyone was and if anyone had a question. Goodness knows I didn’t have all the answers but slowly everyone became more comfortable just popping on the group chat and asking something.

Early on I realized that the assignments that I wanted to create for 5318 and 5389 complimented one another with only minor adjustments. I originally wanted to teach technology for communication for 5318 and create a flipped classroom PL for 5389 but after digging into the creation I saw that in order to flip classrooms, parents and teachers alike needed a better understanding of the technology for both communication and instructional purposes. Suggestions that were made to my work I revised. One such that really frustrated me was the suggestion to embed a link instead of using the feature that loads straight from Google Drive. After working with the suggested feature I still think the instance I used was appropriate but revised my future work to reflect the embedded links and I’m so glad I have. I have completed all assignments on time and have worked hard to work with my peers. I have yet to receive a C on any of my course work at Lamar and do not like the idea of a 79. However, based on the criteria presented, I can account for all but one key contribution and all but 1 supporting contribution. Without being specifically asked to do so, my contributions did not consistently cite research in APA format and I can not tell a lie. I did not complete ALL course readings, video, and supporting resources. I need to improve on reading ALL materials presented to me. I have always viewed those as resources for my use when needed and I suppose I should have checked the criteria I would be asked at the end of the course because I would have read them had I known it wasn’t an option.
